Deutsche Flüssigerdgas Terminal Gesellschaft mbH (DFTG) was established in 1972. The present shareholders are E.ON Ruhrgas, which has a 90% interest and VNG – Verbundnetz Gas Aktiengesellschaft, Leipzig, with a 10% interest.

DFTG-Deutsche Flüssigerdgas Terminal Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung is domiciled in Wilhelmshaven. The object of the company is the landing, storage, treatment and regasification of LNG as well as the construction and operation of the necessary facilities.

DFTG has the permits for the construction of an LNG terminal on the Jade in Wilhelmshaven. The terminal engineering is currently being modified in line with changes in LNG transportation and regasification conditions; respective approval are being applied for. The terminal is to be ready for operation with an annual capacity of 10 billion m³ in 2011.

It is planned to construct a jetty for LNG tankers with a capacity of between 125,000 and 215,000 m³ and two LNG tanks, each holding 160,000m³, as buffer storage for holding the LNG between two tanker arrivals. Therefore, the tank storage service is limited.
